Círculo de la Hispanidad Community Center
...a dream becomes a reality

Community Center l Concept l Facilities l Floor Plans l Green Initiative l Funding Opportunities

Twenty years in the making, Círculo's dream of building a community center finally became a reality when the organization obtained a $15 million loan through a bond issue from the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency in collaboration with Non-Profit Preferred Funding. The center, which is scheduled to open in January 2009, will help Círculo greatly expand its social service, education, recreational, cultural and economic development programs.
This 37,000 square foot building, located on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead, will be the first green community center built by a non-profit 501 (c) (3) in New York State. This green initiative will further support Círculo's mission to improve the lives of individuals and families by reducing energy usage and helping individuals become stewards of the earth and its resources.

Concept for the Center

For over twenty years, Círculo de la Hispanidad has nurtured the dream of creating a community center to provide programs and services for vulnerable families and individuals in underserved communities on Long Island. The center will be instrumental in enabling Círculo to fulfill its mission to encourage full participation in civic and community life as the road to empowerment and stable employment.
Círculo currently serves approximately 15,000 individuals a year, with social service, education, recreation, cultural and economic development programs. When the center opens, the organization will be able to expand to serve over 100,000 individuals a year.
The new facility will house a day care center, a multipurpose room, a cafeteria and a commercial kitchen. It will also provide space for job training programs, youth and recreational programs, career and employment services, technology training, adult education, health programs, and housing and crisis intervention services.
The center will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or "green" building, the first of its kind built by a 501 © (3) non-profit organization in New York State.

Facilities and Services

The 37,000 square foot facility, which will open in phases, will house a host of social service, education, recreational, cultural and economic development programs including:
A day care
Multipurpose room for recreational and social events
Commercial kitchen and cafeteria for programming
And many additional programs.

Floor Plans

We will be adding information about the floor plans in the near future

Green Initiative

Designed as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or "green" building, the center is an historic example of green technology. It is the first of its kind to be built by a 501 © (3) non-profit organization in New York State. This green initiative will further expand Círculo's mission to improve the lives of individuals and families by serving as an example for reducing energy usage and by teaching our next generation of leaders to become stewards of the earth and its resources. The center will also provide educational programming to teach children, their families and the community about the importance of maximizing energy efficiency to save our earth's resources.

Funding Opportunities

Our building campaign offers many opportunities for individuals, corporations, foundations, civic and service groups and public agencies to support our continued effort to complete the community center. An active and enthusiastic fundraising committee is being formed to reach out to our generous patrons and neighbors for their support.

Donors can make a one-time gift or pledge their gift over a period of five years. We offer a range of naming opportunities to memorialize your gift at various levels. All campaign contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We will be happy to discuss the many vehicles that can be used to make a bequest.
