Community Technology Center
The mission of our Community Technology Center (CTC) is to provide Nassau
County residents with access to information technology and related training.
We leverage computer technology to improve academic achievement, teach new
job-related skills, build small businesses and empower people to become "digital
citizens".
We recognize that in an increasingly technologically dominated society, people who lack these skills are at a disadvantage and will become further disadvantaged if they lack access to computers and computer-related technologies.
CTC Workshops and Training
Our Community Technology Center offers a variety of technology programs including:
• Comprehensive Staff Development to prepare instructors for delivering curriculum integrating technology
• Computer training to participants of our career center workshops
• Bilingual Certificate Courses
• Computer-integrated ESL lessons
• GED practice (Spanish and English)
• Navigating the Internet

Basic Microsoft Windows - Typing (5 week course)
PC Basics is designed to transform a "non-user" of computers into
a knowledgeable user of the computer as a tool. Beginning with a review of
the keyboard, disk drives and printer, students continue with a working understanding
of the computer's operating system (Microsoft Windows 2000) and finish with
practical hands-on experience using a PC and running software applications.
In addition, this course offers an in-depth, hands-on look at the Internet
and provides the introductory skills necessary to effectively use the Internet
for business and personal needs. Students will also learn how to type properly.
By the end of the course students should be able to type 20 words per minute.
Microsoft
Word (6 week course)
This course provides hands-on instruction using
the basic and some advanced features of Microsoft Word, one of the most widely
used word processing programs,
in the context of common business applications. Topics include memo formats,
block, move and copy text, create templates for letters, edit manuscripts,
use spell check, the thesaurus and grammar check to proofread copy, etc.
Microsoft
Excel (6 week course)
Many business applications require the use of a spreadsheet as a tool to
complete tasks. This course provides a solid foundation in spreadsheet
functionality in a business context, including creating a worksheet for
budgeting, management
inventory, developing a monthly sales or income report, along with other
functions.
The beginning class includes basic skills needed to create, edit, print
and formulate and recalculate basic spreadsheets, graphs, and charts.
Please contact the office for program schedules. Bilingual computer instruction is offered in Hempstead and Long Beach. Please contact the appropriate office for course registration and program schedules.
All students must be pre-registered before attending any class.
